Every year, YKK produces enough zippers to wrap around the world 50 times. That’s 1.2 million miles of zippers! The National Manufacturing Center of YKK in Macon, Georgia produces around 65,000 miles of those zippers annually.

Shane Herndon has been working at YKK for 27 years. He is the Slide Fastener Assembly Manager, and he is in charge of all cut zipper assembly. A typical day for Shane consists of understanding daily metrics and establishing clear tasks and directions. Find Shane’s full interview below.

Briefly describe a typical work day: I come in and review yesterdays metrics to understand what the priorities for today will be, then communicate to the leaders of my departments so that we are clear on the direction and task at hand. Work to improve all aspects of the departments that I manage.
What is your department in charge of? I’m in charge of all cut zipper assembly which include MF, VF, PF and TZ zippers
What is your favorite part of your job? Helping improve the knowledge of others.
Give an example of innovation at work (related to your department) My departments have been introducing new machinery that includes vision systems to help improve quality for our customers.
