Like YKK’s other manufacturing companies in the North and Central America region, YKK Mexicana, YKK’s zipper manufacturer in Mexico, and YKK Snap Fasteners Manufactura Mexico, YKK’s snap and button company in Mexico, are determined to become a more sustainable company.  They have a reuse-recycle program where a certain percentage of every kilogram of their waste is either reused or recycled.  For example, they internally reuse their cardboard boxes and wood pallets, and they recycle plastic, paper and cardboard, and they sell brass aluminum and metal to a recycling company.  Also as a part of their reuse-recycle process, the company provides waste that can be used as an alternative combustible to a cement company.

According to YKK Japan’s regulations, YKK Mexicana and YKK Snap Fasteners Manufactura have a reuse-recycle program where they send hazardous and non-hazardous waste to government approved facilities.

Last year, YKK Mexicana started sending sludge from its waste water treatment facility to an authorized government facility to make compost out of sludge, since sludge contains a beneficial compound for compost.

Also both YKK Mexicana and YKK Snap Fasteners Manufactura Mexico have made significant investments in their waste water treatment facilities to not only cover the amount of waste generated, but to also treat the water in order to provide a better quality of water as requested by the Mexican government.

In addition, in January of 2018, YKK Mexicana installed a new air compressor system, which will help both YKK Mexicana and YKK Snap Fasteners Manufactura Mexico to save on their electricity consumption each month.  This savings represents a reduction of the emission of CO2.
