I’ve been assigned to share with you Fundamental Behavior #6 “Lead by Example.” The concept is very easy to explain with words but the difficulty is to practice it with the people we deal with on a daily basis, whether at work or in personal matters. That’s where our challenge lies.

To begin, I’d like to share the meaning of the word “example” according to the dictionary:

“An action or behavior that can lead others to imitate it.”

“A case or situation that happened at another time, which is proposed, or so that it is imitated and followed, in case it is good and honest, but to be avoided in case it is bad.”

As leaders we need to be careful with our own actions. We can’t expect others to respect us if we don’t show respect to the members of our teams. We must show humility to be able to relate to all the people who work within the organization, not just those in our departments. Small actions can make a difference in someone’s day. Something as simple as a “Good Morning” with a smile and lots of enthusiasm, so that people can feel that our attitude is genuine. It’s not right to talk about good actions when we don’t practice them; we must ensure that our actions are aligned with our words.

When I was a little boy, I always saw my grandfather as a good, hard-working man who was always searching for ways to help others. Without him having to tell me, I understood that with hard work and effort we can achieve our goals. That’s how my grandfather’s example has helped me throughout my life.

The saying goes, “We should practice what we preach.” We should make each action thinking how it could positively impact our team, our family, and our community. We are called to understand that with our good actions and deeds we are making positive changes around us.

This is my point of view when it comes to this Fundamental Behavior. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read it. I will be very satisfied if each of you can take a good example to your home, your work, and your community.

Blessings,
