YKK Canada Inc. is another company within the YKK North and Central America group that is committed to protecting the environment.  With its manufacturing headquarters located in Montreal, Canada, the company offers a full line of metal, coil and plastic zippers, plus hook and loop, plastic buckles, and webbings.

Guided by the YKK Group Environmental Pledge, YKK Canada has been ISO 14001 certified since 2005.  The three R’s, reduce, reuse and recycle, play a major role in the company’s  operation, as they conserve natural resources, landfill space and energy.  The three R’s help to save land and money, and communities use this rule for protecting the environment and conserving resources when disposing of waste in landfills.

YKK Canada is constantly looking for ways to improve its recycling rate.  It’s plastic and textile waste is used as a combustible alternative to coal in order to produce cement.  Although Canada is known for its abundance of water and electricity, the company continues to find ways to reduce its consumption of these two resources even when it adds to its manufacturing production.  For example, YKK Canada has upgraded its lighting in its plant to T8 and LED lights.  Any time YKK Canada replaces a machine/process; they do so with machinery that has lower energy consumption and/or an improved cycle time.

Each year, YKK Canada proudly participates in YKK’s worldwide tree planting event, but YKK Canada’s event has a twist.  For each employee who becomes a parent during the year, the company plants a tree in honor of the parent’s newborn child, and they provide the parent with a certificate which shows the location of the tree.  This year YKK Canada planted eight trees, and two of the trees were part of the company’s “One Tree for One Child” program.
