YKK sponsoring San Francisco-based Arts of Fashion Foundation to Host 18th Annual International Fashion Showcase at the Asian Art Museum
The Arts of Fashion Foundation will welcome guests to the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco on Monday, December 16, 2019 to view the grand finale of the annual Symposium, the International Fashion Competition Runway Show, a presentation of 50 finalists from around the world. The show begins at 7:30 pm.
In the spring, the Foundation received fashion design proposals, designed under the theme of Verticality, from nearly 300 students representing 85 fashion institutions from 28 countries. Hosted at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech, 50 finalists were selected from that group by a panel of judges to send their “mini collections” down the runway. At stake is a chance to win apprenticeships with renowned fashion houses across the globe including the Métiers d’art – Chanel, Manish Arora in Delhi and scholarships for the Foundation’s Master Classes that take place each summer and winter at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
The Symposium launches Sunday, December 15th at the Asian Art Museum. Beginning at 1:00 pm, speakers from the fashion industry will present their work and methods of creation to the public.
Reservation for Seminar (Seating is limited and is first-come first-served).
Seminar presenters include:
- YIQING YIN and NOUREDDINE AMIR: official and guest members of Chambre Syndicale of Haute Couture in
- JASPER CHADPRAJONG-SMITH: fashion designer, educator, and researcher from RISD (Rhode Island School of
Design), as well as emerging fashion designers ALICIA DECLERCK and BRANDON WEN.
The Symposium and Runway Show operate with the sponsorship of YKK, the support of the model agencies LOOK, SCOUT and JE, and of a network of volunteers, including students from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM), and the French American International School of San Francisco (FAIS). FAIS students are continuing for their eighth show with the organization and will lead the team of dressers.
Through these series of events, the Foundation aims to create strong ties and promote creative exchange between design professionals in all areas of the fashion world. Designers for designers. In the spirit of YKK’s founder, “No one prospers without rendering benefit to others.”
